PRESS RELEASE

SWEET SMELL OF STRAWBERRY SUCCESS FOR MERCER’S OF YORKSHIRE

PRESERVE PRODUCER CROWNED ONE OF THE HIGHEST-SCORING PRODUCTS AT THE DELICIOUSLYORKSHIRE AWARDS

“Brilliant sweetness, sticky and sumptuous – one of the highest scoring products entered into this year’s awards” was just one of the comments about Mercer’s Strawberry Conserve from judges at last night’s Deliciouslyorkshire Awards.

Paul and Lizzie of Mercer’s of Yorkshire are celebrating after their Strawberry Conserve pipped competitors to the post to win Best Sweet Preserve at last night’s prestigious Deliciouslyorkshire Awards.

Mercer’s fought off tough competition from an array other local producers to be crowned the winner in this category but the colour, consistency and flavour of Mercer’s Strawberry Conserve gave it the edge.

Last night saw Deliciouslyorkshire’s seventh annual award ceremony, designed to showcase and celebrate the ‘crème de la crème’ of Yorkshire’s food and drink industry.

Paul and Lizzie Mercer were amongst the 400 guests who attended the glitzy award ceremony at Rudding Park Hotel, Harrogate which was hosted by Radio 2 Drive-time resident gastronome, Nigel Barden.  The winning conserve was also put through its paces as it featured in the evening’s dessert.

On winning the Best Sweet Preserve Category, sponsored by The Insurance Group, Lizzie Mercer said: “We’re delighted to have been named the winner of the Best Sweet Preserve category for a second time – this really is as good as it gets!

“As a family-run business, we really do put our heart and soul into the preserves and continuously strive for perfection, so it’s fantastic that our passion and hard work has been recognised.  This comes after what has been an incredible year for Mercer’s of Yorkshire, with the lines now being stocked in Morrison’s, Asda, Proudfoots, selected Costcutters and independent farm shops.”
